A white cross indicates the second phase of Leyte's development, when Magellan passed through enroute to Cebu; while the upper portion commemorates the landing of Gen. The capital city of Tacloban is the most important seaport on the eastern coast, while Ormoc City is the outlet on the western coast. DAVAO Located on the eastern coast of Mindanao, Davao is home of the country's highest mountain peak, Mount Apo, and aerie of the magnificent Philippine Eagle. It is also the abode of some of the country's most colorful tribal people: Manobos, Bagobos, Bilaans etc. Its capital, Davao City, is a hub of business and culture and the country's largest City in terms of land area. Historians, don't forget to visit Taloma Beach, once a World War II beachhead and see sunken warships 200 meters from shore! ILOILO Located at Panay Island, Iloilo is a bounty of sites, sounds and delicacies. The capital, Iloilo City, rests between Iloilo and Batino rivers, which from the angle of a nose. This setting is the root of the province's old name, Ilong-Ilong which means "noselike." It has a number of historical sites including old houses and churches. Places of interest include Museo Iloilo, Jaro Cathedral, and Sicogon Island. Iloilo is a good place to buy Barong Tagalog as it is noted for its fine embroidered fabrics. NEGROS
